Art Focus is pleased to offer our artists the opportunity to mount their own shows in Port Coquitlam’s City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC. (map)

In addition to City Hall, Art Focus members also display their artwork in Martha’s Bakery at 2239 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 2A9 (map)

Meetings are held on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month and we are delighted to be able to hold these in our new home in the Outlet in the new Port Coquitlam Arts Village, 2100 - 2253 Leigh Square Maps & Directions, Port Coquitlam, BC  V3B 7Z5.  Access to the Outlet (old Port Coquitlam Post Office) is also available from McAllister Street right behind Port Coquitlam City Hall.  Meetings start at 7:00 pm.  The first Wednesday of the month is the workshop - an informal chance to get together and paint; the second Wednesday is a meeting and the fourth Wednesday of the month is a demo.

Everyone is welcome to come to the demos.  We have an overhead mirror which makes it easy to see the artist as he paints.  The public is invited and there is a no charge to attend these demos.

Art Focus is a group of Tri-City area artists working in a variety of media, including pastel, watercolour, acrylic, oil, and mixed media. This group was formed in November, 1993.

The group meets three times a month to share ideas, to support and learn from each other, and from other artists in the community.

Here is what we do:

Every year we hold two major Art Events … our May Day Art Show & Sale in the Spring and our Annual Exhibition & Sale in the Fall.

We participate in many Community Events … including Art in the Park, Mothers’ Day in Lions Park, Children’s May Day Banner Project, and Castle Park Canada Day Celebrations.

We actively encourage our members to display their work to the public on a regular basis. We offer them the opportunity to display within a Group Show context or as a Two-Person Show in Port Coquitlam City Hall and Martha’s Bakery and Restaurant.

We have demos in various media by inviting other artists in the Tri-Cities area to demonstrate their techniques to our members. The public is also welcome to attend.

Margaret Shorter I have drawn and painted all my life. As a practicing artist I was part of active art scene painting murals and exhibiting in group shows. I later focused on graphic design and illustration for not of profit groups. My formal art education after was Sheridan College where I studied interpretive illustration. Recently I completed Practical Lighting, a studio lighting for the professional photographer at Langara College to strengthen my knowledge of strobes and lighting techniques. A continuous learner having studied various aspects of art and design in studio courses such as portraiture, life drawing and computer programs and how to create a successful small business with the Self Employment Program at Douglas College. I am the owner of a photography business, Metro Photo serving Metro Vancouver and the Tri-Cities area. Margaret Shorter
